Work begins on doubling the Rome-Pescara section

An important step ahead for mobility in the Appenines

Today, 8 April, marked the official launch of the works to double Lots 1 and 2 of the Rome-Pescara section of railway line, essential for upgrading the link across the Appenines, marking a leap ahead in increasing the speed for this railway line.

Upgrading of the Rome-Pescara line, which is part of the wider Global Project, aims the increase the frequency of these services, while reducing the travelling time between Abruzzo, the Capital, and the Adriatic Trunk Route.

The "Global Project" is made up of a series of works, some already underway while others are at the planning or authorisation stages, including doubling of the Pescara Porta Nuova-San Giovanni Teatino, San Giovanni Teatino-Chieti, Chieti-Interporto d'Abruzzo, Interporto d'Abruzzo-Manoppello (Lot 1), Manoppello-Scafa (Lot 2), Pratola Peligna-Sulmona (Lot 3), Avezzano-Tagliacozzo (Lot 4) and Lunghezza-Roma sections.

The Manoppello-Scafa and Interporto-Manoppello sections, covering a total of about 14 km, are priorities in terms of this ambitious project. This complex railway task includes the construction of about 3,5 km of viaducts, with 5 railway bridges of significant engineering prowess, and 9,8 km of embankments / trenches, as well as the building of two new stations and one stop, in order to ensure relinking and environmental valorisation of the area it passes through.

Italferr saw to the design used as a basis for the tender process, working alongside RFI throughout the authorisation phase, involving acquiring the areas, to be followed by construction through to commissioning.

This milestone is the result of the dedication and competence of a large team that brings pride to their day-to-day work, in order to ensure that these highly strategic works for mobility in Italy become a reality.
