First-phase ERTMS Technological Upgrading launched

At 05:20 on 30 March Italferr, the Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane's engineering company, launched the first phase ofERTMS Technological Upgrading of the Rho-Gallarate route.

This work involved upgrading the Vital Core, responsible for train traffic safety, within Rho Station. The aim of the work was to ensure more efficient and safer rail traffic management, essential for integrating new ERTMS technology. This project called for significant preparatory work that took about 10 months, in collaboration with all the components involved.

Given the strategic importance of Rho Station, a crucial hub for entering Milan's railway system with about 400 trains passing through per day, the work involved significant organisational complexity. The works involved about 40 technicians from Italferr, the departments from the Territory, and RFI's Investments Division, whose commitment and professionalism contributed to the good outcome of the whole operation.
