On 4 March 2024, a two-day workshop was launched in the Innovation Hub of Roma Termini, as part of a research project on walkability/bikebility indices that the FS Group is carrying out within the Spoke 9 Urban Mobility of the National Centre for Sustainable Mobility (MOST), coordinated for FS by the FS-MOST Coordination Structure of the FS Research Centre.
The research project, which involves the company Italferr - an engineering company of the FS Group's Infrastructures Hub - with the support of RFI - Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and FS Sistemi Urbani - envisages collaboration with the Universities of Cagliari and Parma and is aimed at the construction of a data model and a software tool able to provide indicators on the level of walkability and cycleability of urban areas and at the definition of guidelines for the design of urban mobility spaces, with the objective of improving the accessibility of stations while encouraging active mobility.
The workshop, organised by Italferr's Sustainability Structure, was attended not only by representatives from the Universities of Cagliari and Parma, but also by Italferr's Strategies and Sustainability Department and TID Spoke & Digital Rail Infrastructure Development Department, as well as representatives from RFI's Stations and Services Planning and Development Department.
The intensive study days also included a visit to the Rome Val D'Ala station, identified as one of the case studies of the research.
