On 20 December 2024, the bridge over the Alpone river on the AV/AC Verona-Vicenza line was launched near San Bonifacio in the province of Verona.
The metal arch bridge, with a clear span of 75 m, is located on the VI05 viaduct and consists of:
The construction of the arch bridge took place on site for the assembly of the deck, arches and hangers, while the launching of the structure, weighing approximately 700 tons, was carried out thanks to an "extraordinary" method, which involved lifting, moving and lowering onto temporary supports of the entire previously pre-assembled structure. For the construction, a 1250-ton Liebherr crane was used, the only one of its type in Italy, supported in the handling and lowering operations by two auxiliary cranes (600 tons and 450 tons), which supported the bridge structure at the ends of the arch-chain attachment.
Following the preparatory assembly and control activities in the previous days, the launching operations began at dawn on December 20 and were successfully completed the same evening, to the great satisfaction of the representatives of the General Contractor, the contractors, the client RFI and the Italferr Works Management.
