New contract for Italferr in Canada for the first phase of development of a section of the Ontario Line

The new fast metro line will cross the city of Toronto

Italferr, the engineering company part of the Infrastrucrure Unit of Gruppo FS, as part of a Design Team and with the Contractors Webuild and FCC has signed a contract for the development and construction of the "Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations (PTUS)" section of the Ontario Line.

The actual value of the work will be defined based on the design requirements included in the contract.

The new line will be situated in the heart of the Greater Toronto Region, where the population is expected to grow rapidly from the current 6 million inhabitants to over 8 million by 2030.

Italferr will be responsible for the design of the pre-cast tunnel liner (PCTL), the fire life safety and ventilation systems for the TBM tunnel specified by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx.

The PTUS contract for the Ontario Line will be executed as a 'Progressive Design-Build' contract model that provides for close collaboration between the client, builder and designer, resulting in lower execution risks in the start-up and construction phase of the project. The PTUS contract includes the design and construction of three kilometers of twin tunnels, two underground stations, three emergency exit buildings/emergency services buildings and the interface with the Toronto Transit Commission's Line 2 and related works.

With this contract, Italferr consolidates its presence in the country which already sees our involvement in the Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project and in the Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) contract related to the design, construction, supply and operation of the railway systems of the Ontario Line itself.
