Open Italy: on track towards innovation

The 2024 edition of the innovation program for companies, start-ups and innovation enablers is concluded

Coordinated by the Elis Consortium, Open Italy is a laboratory where large companies and start-ups exchange views on the main innovation trends and reason about the resolution of common scenarios and needs.

Among the protagonists, the FS Group at the forefront in the realisation of proof-of-concepts based on various use cases, presented and awarded during the two-day Open Italy 2024 event that took place on 26 and 26 January at Acquario Romano in Rome.

In particular, Italferr, the engineering company of the Group's Infrastructure Hub, participated in the development of four innovative projects alongside several start-ups.

The co-innovation project with BlueTensor was based on the customisation of the algorithms already developed in the field of Natural Language Processing, in particular the Large Language Models, customised for Italferr's specific needs, with the aim of enhancing office automation, extracting data from documents and using them to draw up summary documents, fill in questionnaires and/or identify potential risks.

With Waterjade, the experimentation carried out by Italferr was driven by the objective of having site-specific climate forcing factors corresponding to future IPCC scenarios in order to carry out an assessment of vulnerability to climate change and to obtain integrative design criteria aimed at the development of adaptation solutions.

The experimentation with Sandsiv involved Trenitalia and Italferr towards the development of a dynamic customer satisfaction environment on corporate processes and services that allows, with the support of artificial intelligence and data analytics, to monitor customer perceptions with a view to continuous improvement, standardising data processing and classification and result reporting.

With Artys, Anas and Italferr have started a multi-corporate collaboration focusing on high-tech solutions for environmental monitoring and hydrogeological risk management through the application of a climate change tool that uses the latest weather forecast data, climate data provided by public and private meteorological and environmental services. The purpose is the monitoring of and warning about floods with continuous processing of hazard maps, applicable to small to medium-sized basins, to enable timely actions for the protection of people and infrastructure.

Each Group company received the 'Impact Award', the prize linked to the impact generated by FS projects, which Elis has awarded on the basis of the calculation of the SROI (Social Return on Investment) that identifies the economic value of the social impact achieved by the projects implemented.
