On November 28, 2024 in Genoa, Italferr will participate in the tenth edition of the ITA Tunnelling Awards 2024, an event dedicated to projects in the underground sector, organized by the ITA-AITES International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, the UN's international organization whose members include national associations from 80 countries around the world.
After an initial evaluation phase, Italferr was a finalist in the 2 categories "Renovation Project of the Year" with the project to upgrade the tunnels for the sextupling of the Genoa Railway Node, a strategic work that will ensure the separation of regional and long-distance trains, thus facilitating the connection of the Port of Genoa to Rotterdam, and “Young Tunneller of the Year” with the nomination of the young PM of Infrastrutture Napoli, Luigi D'Angelo, selected for his professional experience and international scientific and study activities in SIG - Italian Tunnelling Society and ITA.
The Company is also a finalist in the “Major Project of the Year” category for the amount between 50 M Euros and 500 M Euros with the Isarco River Undercrossing project, completed under Italferr 's Works Supervision, submitted by BBT - Brenner Base Tunnel.
The finalists have been invited to register for the ITA Awards, which will take place in Genoa at the Magazzini del Cotone venue. The Awarding Committee will present medals to the first, second and third place rankings in each category.
The trophy will be a sculpture representing Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the engineer who designed the first Tunnel under the Thames in London, completed in 1843.
