"CENTRAL ASIA REGIONAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION (CAREC)” PROJECT

Italferr has been awarded the tender called by Joint Stock Company (JSC) "O'zbekiston Temir Yo'llari (UTY)" related to the PMC for the "Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (Carec-Carec2) Corridor 2 (Pap-Namangan-Andijan) Railway Electrification Project - Additional Financing" for the modernisation of the electrified "Angren-Pap-Kokand-Andjian Railway Line," financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and National funds.

The project concerned electrification and signalling, telecommunications and traction power management systems for the 452.4-kilometer-long single-track railway line, consisting of the Angren-Pap-Kokand-Margilan-Andijan-Xonobod section, and four adjacent branches. The line - located along (or as an alternative to) Corridor 2 running east-west from China to the Caucasus - has a design speed of 160 km/h and is connected to the electrified high-speed rail line between the main cities of Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara.

The project also included the provision of courses to prepare Uzbek railroad staff, and in particular women, to use the new train operation management system.

Work has been completed.

TRANSPORTATION PLANS IN CAREC COUNTRIES

The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program is a partnership of 11 countries working together to develop major regional projects aimed at shared growth. Since its establishment in 2001 and as of December 2018, CAREC has mobilised more than $34.5 billion in investments that have helped to establish multimodal transportation networks, increase energy trade and security, facilitate the free movement of people and goods and lay the foundation for corridor economic development. In particular, a 2017-2030 plan has been developed for the transport sector that prioritises the implementation of the different infrastructure works and in different countries.

By acquiring the PMCs of the Angren-Pap and Pap-Namangan-Andijan railway lines, Italferr has inserted itself in this context as a Consultant and Supervisor in the realisation of the technological upgrade of the afore mentioned lines. Moreover, between 2018 and 2019, the Company acquired (in JV with DB International) the PMC of the extension of two Metro lines (green and yellow) in Tashkent; projects directly funded by the Uzbek state.

ANGREN-PAP-ANDIJAN RAILWAY LINE ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT

Angren-Pap section
Italferr was awarded by Uzbek Railways the technical assistance contract for the implementation of electrification on the Angren-Pap railway line (124 km, including a 19.2 km railway tunnel through the Kamchik Pass), in the heart of the most productive part of the Asian country. The project also included procurement and control of the installation of technological systems.
The work began in November 2016 and was completed with the commissioning of the line in March 2017.
Pap-Namangan-Andijan section

Italferr carried out design, tender management and work supervision activities.
Work began in late 2017 and was completed with the line being put into operation in early 2021.
