HARAMAIN HIGH SPEED PROJECT
One of the largest transportation projects in the Middle East.
The temporary grouping of enterprises (RTI) Italferr and Italcertifer, a company of the Italian Ferrovie dello Stato Group, signed in Madrid with the Iberian-Saudi Consortium "Al Shoula" the Safety Verification Engineer contract, operational for the second phase of the Haramain High Speed Railway Project in Saudi Arabia.
The assignment was to certify the safety and quality requirements, according to European standards and norms, of the power, infrastructure, control/management and signalling systems, rolling stock and operation and maintenance subsystems of the new Medina-La Mecca HS line.
The assistance of the Italferr-Italcertifer grouping was approved by Saudi Railway Organisation (Contracting Station) in awarding the maxi-contract for the construction and operation of the new HS line intended for pilgrim traffic between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. The contract testifies to the high level of quality Italy is capable of supplying both in the field of design and certification of safety standards.
The new Medina-Mecca High Speed line, approximately 450 km long, connects the two holy cities through King Abdullah Economic City, using 449.2 km of main line and a 3.75 km branch line to King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA), in Jeddah. The line is designed for a maximum speed of 300 km/h.
The work has been completed.
