The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, inaugurated a 13 km section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi.
This marks an important milestone for Italferr, which, since 2019, in partnership with the Spanish company Ayesa, has been providing consultancy and engineering services for one of India's most ambitious transport projects: the creation of a national RRTS network, 82 km long with 22 stations. This revolutionary initiative aims to improve mobility and alleviate congestion in the country by connecting the Indian capital with the cities of Meerut and Ghaziabad through a series of tunnels and elevated viaducts. At the center of this project is the semi-high-speed train "Namo Bharat," designed to travel at approximately 180 kilometers per hour.
The project is part of the Indian government's development plan to create a total of 8 rapid transit corridors, ensuring a comprehensive integrated multimodal transport system to enhance the effectiveness of the public railway transport system and the urban and regional interconnection between the states of Delhi and the neighboring districts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will also ensure sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 150,000 tons per year.
