125 km of new railway link with a predominantly underground development (105 km developed with 17 tunnels), which runs parallel to the bed of the Ganges River, at the foot of the Himalayan Mountain system.
With its 13 stations, the ambitious project for the new railway line in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand in India sees Italferr, an engineering company of the FS Group, in joint venture with the Swiss Lombardi, tackle complex Design and Project Management Consulting (PMC) activities in a challenging environmental context.
Eng. Roberto Borghi, International Market Director, together with the Head of International Operations, Eng. Stefania Albanesi, visited the Himalayan region in Uttarakhand, India. Their trip focused, in particular, on packages 1 and 8 of the Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line project, where they met the dedicated Italferr team, accompanied by Eng. Giancarlo Rinaldi, PMO Area India 3 and Team Leader (TL) for PMC activities on package 1.
In particular, package 1 involves the excavation of a 10.9 km tunnel, while package 8 includes two tunnels, respectively 6.6 km and 7.1 km for a project that is not only a transport initiative, but the confirmation of the commitment to innovation and resilience in one of the most difficult geographical and environmental contexts on the planet, paving the way for a crucial railway link that will improve mobility and connectivity in this beautiful region.
Along the route that connects Package 1 to Package 8, there is a place of significant geographical and religious interest. Near the town of Dev Prayag, the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers join to form the Ganges River.
