The main points discussed were:

  • The start of the High-Speed experience – Direttissima Florence-Rome (1977)
  • Choices that led to the start of the modern Italian High-Speed program
  • Organization of FS, foundation of Italferr (1984) and TAV (1991)
  • Engagement of the industry through consortia
  • Development of technological systems and the choice to implement European standards for interoperability
  • Evolution of the program and investments over time (activations from 2005 to 2016 + ongoing activities) – Role of Italferr
  • Socio-economic effects
