Italferr technology at the service of Romania's railways

From 2012 to 2020, in Romania, Italferr contributed to the restructuring and adaptation of over 429 km of railway lines, modernizing the infrastructure and adapting it to European standards.

Italferr carried out, on behalf of the Romanian railways company CFR (Compania Natonala de Cai Ferate - Railway Company of the Romanian Republic), technical assistance for the rehabilitation of the 5 railway sections of Corridor No. 4:

  • Brasov-Sighisoara (130 km)
  • Sighisoara-Coslariu (98 km)
  • Coslariu-Simeria (68 km)
  • Predeal-Brasov (26 km)
  • Craiova-Calafat (107 km)

As a guarantee of the principles of compliance with European standards, the work included the revision of feasibility studies, executive design, modernisation of the railway infrastructure and technological upgrading.

Italferr also carried out the feasibility study to rehabilitate approximately 234 km of the Craiova-Caransebes line, part of the Eastern Mediterranean corridor.

The feasibility study and final design were completed in May 2013. Technical assistance during construction began in January 2012 and was completed in December 2020.
