Italferr's expertise applied to the Silkyara Tunnel

Thanks from the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA)

Following the collapse of the Silkyara motorway tunnel in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, Italferr was thanked by ITA President, Arnold Dix for their valuable support in the operations to save the 41 Indian miners who were trapped.

The engineering Company of the FS Group Infrastructure Business Unit is involved in the Region in designing and supervising works on the new Rishikesh railway tunnel and was invited by RVNL, an Indian Railways Company owned by the Indian Government, to a meeting held to identify elements and information on the event due to their technical / specialist expertise acquired over time when excavating under the Himalayan mountain range.

In fact, the Italferr joint venture with Lombardi (a Swiss engineering company) has been in the north of the Country since 2019 for having been awarded the contract for Detailed Design and Project Management Consultancy of two lots (Package-1 and Package-8) of the new Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line in India, which covers more than 125 km in the Himalayan mountains towards the Chinese border.

This involves very complex and variable geology that, similar to the Silkyara Tunnel, allowed the Company to share studies and documentation in order to deal with the crisis successfully.

Even in this event, Italferr's excellence, proactivity and professionalism made the difference.
