On the morning of 30 June 2024, the new PP-ACC (Peripheral Point - Computerized Central Interlocking) system in Monza was activated.
This important step affects the activities of Module 2 (Lombardy) of the Turin-Padua Technological Upgrade and involves the four tracks of the Monza-Sesto San Giovanni section, as well as the branch lines on the Lecco side (Via Arcore and Via Villasanta) and Chiasso.
In the latter direction, undergoing activation, the interfacing with the ACCM (Relay Interlocking System) and SCCM (Multistation Command and Control System) of the Monza-Chiasso line, which is already equipped with an ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 BL3 signaling system superimposed on the traditional signaling system, has been implemented.
In addition to the afore mentioned interventions, the technical buildings for the installation of safety/signaling equipment and related civil engineering installations such as LFM (Light and Motive Power), air conditioning and anti-intrusion, the telecommunication systems, the SCMT (Train Running Control System), as well as widespread modifications to the electrical traction and track and rigging systems, were implemented.
The work just completed was considerable complex as it was carried out while "in operation" on an international line with high traffic volumes. Italferr, an engineering company of the FS Group's Infrastructure Hub, was entrusted with the task of Works Supervision.
