On 29 November 2020, Italferr completed the first negotiation procedure commissioned by Ferrovie del Sud Est for the executive design, supply and installation of the train traffic control system (SCMT) ground subsystem (STT) with signal encoder technology (EDS-SCMT) on the Bari-Taranto line, in the section between Putignano and Martina Franca, about 34 km long.
Italferr entirely managed the awarding procedure, remotely via the Procurement Portal, preparing the negotiation documents, carrying out the tender and the sub-procedure of verification of the general, anti-mafia and techno-economic requirements, arranging the actual awarding and coordinating the stipulation of the contract.
The project, awarded to MER MEC S.p.A. for 1.5 million Euros, aims to increase the safety of the Bari-Taranto line, where there is currently no train traffic protection system of any kind, thereby aligning the standards of the railway network operated by Ferrovie del Sud Est with those of the FS Italiane S.p.A. Group network and facilities.
A further important contribution of the FS Italiane Group, which, even more so at such a critical time due to the global health emergency, continues to work towards the development of infrastructure and public services in the country and therefore improving safety in transporting people.
