NEW AL FAW PORT
Italferr provided railway engineering consultancy for the development of the new Al Faw Port in Iraq (Master Plan and Front-end Design) to be built in the Basra province, along the Khar Abd Allah river, in an area not far from the mouth of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
The project envisages more than 10 kilometers of docks, 4.6 million square meters of cargo storage areas and grain silos, one million square meters of roads, railways and utilities. The volume of container traffic expected at the peak of its development is 7 MTEUs/year, about 20,000 containers per day. Activities have included the design of freight rail yards to serve the port and its connection to the existing rail network.
It will be one of the largest, if not the largest, port infrastructure in the Middle East: "the country's gateway to the world".
