ANJI KHAD BRIDGE

The first railway cable-stayed bridge designed and built in India

IIn 2016, Italferr was awarded the design and supervision of the cable-stayed railway bridge Anji Khad, crossing the Anji river, in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

The bridge, with a length of 473.25 m and a height of 193 m, is located on the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur Srinagar-Baramulla railway line and stands out as one of the most ambitious and challenging projects of the entire railway line that will cross the north-western region of India, along the slopes of Kashmir, up to the borders with Pakistan.

Italferr proposed and developed an iconic solution of an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, with a main span of 290 m and a single support tower 193 m high, located on the more accessible side of the gorge.

Project implementation was completed in February 2024 and follow-up activities are ongoing.

Awards: The Anji Khad Bridge project was granted the Award of Merit in the Bridge/Tunnel category of the ENR Global Best Projects 2024.
