HIGH SPEED RAILWAY SYSTEM

Italferr, as a subcontractor of the Louis Berger Group, was part of the group of designers supporting the Salini Impregilo + Security Pavings Joint Venture of Contractors for the California High Speed Railway's "Design & Build Contract Package 4" tender project. The performance started with the tender launch on 27 May 2015 and ended with the submission of the tender bid in mid-October 2015.

Because of the size of the ambitious project, which will cross areas of California that are extremely diverse geographically, environmentally and economically, the California High Speed Rail Authority divided the new HS system into several sections or construction lots. Lot 4 is located in the towns of Tulare and Kern and the cities of Shafter and Wasco and involves the design and construction of about 35 miles of civil engineering works. This section, with a design speed of 350 km/h, features viaducts and embankments that will minimise impact to local populations and allow overpasses of the new line with the conventional BNSF railway.

The project is part of the completion of the central section of the future California HS line, in the Central Valley between Fresno and Bakersfield, pending the more challenging connections to the cities of San Francisco to the north and Los Angeles to the south.

The work was completed in December 2015.
